Playlist Swap // Collab w/ Sarah @ Paraphernalia

Heyooo cheerios! I’m excited for what I’ve got for you today! Sarah and I have given each other a list of seven songs to listen to, and then we’re gonna give our thoughts on them. I’m not the best at song evaluation, haha, but we’ll see where this goes.

(Go give her a follow. She’s one of the most amazing and talented of artists and writers I know. πŸ’™πŸ’™)

*cracks knuckles* It’s quite fun to see the differences in our tastes, hehe. Alrighty, lets get to it!

In the Dark – Cypress & Co.

This is a sweet and touching song! Not what I usually listen to, as far as the type of singing goes, but I enjoyed it. πŸ™‚ My favorite lyrics would be these:

When you start to drift out
I will be here to pull you in, here to pull you in
When you need to break down
I’ll be your shoulder to cry on, I can hold you up
And this world expects so much
I just want you where you are
When the light is just too far
I’ll sit with you in the dark

I like the theme, how she always wants to be there, through even the darkest parts. A shoulder to cry on, y’know?

Sadly, since I don’t have access to YouTube, I can’t just post the videos on here (if that’s even how it works xD), which would be easy. Ah, well. πŸ™‚

Be Still – The Killers

I liked this one! Not only are the lyrics great but just tune, the slightly funky sound of it that made me like it a lot.

Be still
Wild and young
Long may your innocence reign
Like shells on the shore
And may your limits be unknown
And may your efforts be your own
If you ever feel you can’t take it anymore

Don’t break character
You’ve got a lot of heart
Is this real or just a dream?
Rise up like the sun
Labor ’til the work is done

This is an encouraging song, which I think is great, because we need more of those. πŸ™‚

Neon Gravestones – Twenty Øne Pilots

OoOh. I know a while back I said that I didn’t like rap… *coughs into hand* Well, my tastes have changed a bit since then, and I do like rap now, but definitely not all rap. πŸ˜› Anywho, this song of TØP’s is kinda rapp-y, which I liked.

Wow. This is a deep, powerful song. Dealing with the topic of suicide is really difficult, man. I’d say listen to this song and really pay attention to the lyrics, because it gets deep.

What’s my problem?
Well, I want you to follow me down to the bottom
Underneath the insane asylum
Keep your wits about you while you got ’em
‘Cause your wits are first to go while you’re problem-solving
And my problem?
We glorify those, even more, when they
My opinion
Our culture can treat a loss
Like it’s a win and right before we turn on them
We give them the highest of praise, and hang their banner from a ceiling
Communicating, further engraving
An earlier grave is an optional way
No

That right there, “Communicating, further engraving/ An earlier grave is an optional way/ No”. That is saying something. And saying something that needs to be said, for sure.

Sing It Out – Switchfoot

This one was a bit more lighthearted, which was good, after the one I just listened to. πŸ˜› Not my type of song, again with the tune (I’m more of an upbeat, funky music person, I’ve noticed), but good song nonetheless.

Sing it out
Sing it out
Take what is left of me
And make it a melody

Sing it out
Sing out-loud
I can’t the words to sing
You’d be my remedy

Astronaut – Simple Plan

Again, the rocky-ness of this song is definitely not my taste. xD Sarah, you keep hitting me with such- what’s the word? Melancholy?- songs, haha. That’s another thing I’ve noticed, I prefer lighthearted and happy songs. xD

‘Cause tonight I’m feeling like an astronaut
Sending SOS from this tiny box
To the lonely people that the world forgot
Are you out there?
‘Cause you’re all I’ve got

Leave Them All Behind – Billy Talent

It’s another rocky song, what can I say…

Tired of all the promises and never coming through
It’s easy to pretend until they turn their back on you
And all the ones that bring you down, their colors weren’t that true
And life’s become a battle that you swore you’d never lose

I’ll just have to admit, this one is the least favorite of the list, lol.

Golden – Fall Out Boy

Interesting song. I’m not sure what to say about it. xD

How cruel is the golden rule
When the lives we lived are only golden-plated?

Well well well! That was fun. We’ve definitely got different tastes. πŸ˜‚ I hadn’t heard of any of these music artists, besides TØP, before, so it was quite a roller coaster ride of new stuff.

As it turns out, I’m good at listening to music but terrible at actually stating my thoughts about it (I can guarantee Sarah’s will be much more interesting).

Go hop on over to Sarah’s post to see my song recs and her opinions of them!

Have you heard any of these songs? What type of music do you like? Got any song recommendations? Have a wonderful day!

Adios!

  1. I seriously love this idea! It looks like you guys had fun putting it together.
The only song I’ve heard on this list is Be Still, but honestly that’s just because Sarah told me to listen to it. XD It’s not a bad song, eh?
