January Wrap-Up

Aaand another month has passed. Wow. Does anyone feel old? I don’t really feel old… yet. I mean, I’m truly a year older, even though I don’t feel it. My birthday, as well as my brother’s, took place in January, but I didn’t really do much for mine. I had a little shopping trip planned for my b-day, but it seems that our vehicles absolutely must break down when we need them most. πŸ˜‚ So yes, we stayed home and had a good time anyway. πŸ™‚

I’ve recently got a humongous urge to read ALLLLLLL OF DICKENS’ BOOKS. Ahem. Like, right now. It just randomly came on. I’ve only actually read Great Expectations so far (believe it or not), and as you probably know, I LOVE it, so I’m really excited to start on the others! When I started reading Pride & Prejudice for the first time, I found myself immensely missing the weirdness and mystery of Dickens’ work. πŸ˜‚

yours truly :))

Other than that randomness, nothing that I can remember has happened, except for a certain stray cat that mayyyyy be staying in our *cough* garage. He’s adorable.

We also kinda named him…

It’s a very interesting name, and only if you ask will I tell it to you, hahahaaaa. πŸ˜›

Oh, and we were repeatedly smothered under snow during the whole month. I also survived the first semester.

Words Written

You know, I’m no longer ashamed that I haven’t actually been able to write my story. Because I’m outlining it, so I’m doing something, at least. xD But, I have written quite a lot on a story that was simply-a-short-story-but-has-developed-something-really-complicated-and-I-may-or-may-not-have-kinda-dragged-myself-into-a-pontential-dissasterrr…….

Books Read

  • The Always War- Margaret Peterson Haddix
  • Remarkables- Margaret Peterson Haddix
  • The Strangers- Margaret Peterson Haddix
  • Found- M.P.H.
  • Sent- M.P.H.
  • Sabotaged- M.P.H
  • Pride & Prejudice- Jane Austen

Um. Yeah. A friend of mine dragged me into Margaret Peterson Haddix’s books, and since they’re fairly short and mostly middle grade, I read a lot of them. xD You know, I recently discovered that I’m actually a really slow reader. #shocker

That wraps up my month, cheerios. As for the pen pal/letter art posts a few of you have suggested, fear not! They’re coming, I just haven’t done enough letter art to put into a post yet, lol.

Annnnnd I’m out.

How was your January? πŸ˜€ Dickens or Austen? Ready for spring?? I’d love to chat! πŸ™‚

  1. Jane Austen is my favorite, but I do like Dickens a lot. I read David Copperfield in about four days, if I remember correctly (it was a looong book). I’ve only read A Christmas Carol and David Copperfield, though. Northanger Abbey is probably my favorite book by Jane Austen, but I love Emma, too, and I’m honestly not sure which book I like more. Good luck writing and outlining! Did you like Pride and Prejudice? (Oh, and what’s the cat’s name? πŸ™‚ )

    1. IN. FOUR. DAYS????? (what superpower is thissssss) Man. I’m slightly jealous of your reading skills. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
      Yep, I did like P&P! πŸ™‚
His name is Romulus Sebastian Fitzherbert. xD We call him Rommy for short, lol!

  2. Dickens!! Little Dorrit and the Mystery of Edwin Drood are two of my favorites (though Edwin Drood is unfinished and so frustrating that we don’t know the end!!). I love his weirdness and the vast array of characters and his sprawling descriptions. He makes me laugh a lot. XD

    1. Yayy! I have yet to read either of those, but I shall, I shall. πŸ˜€ Yes though, his weirdness is the BEST! xD He makes me laugh a lot, too. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Have you read Our Mutual Friend by him? I’ve just started it, and so far I like it. πŸ™‚

He has written one of my very favorite books, Bleak House. It is soooo good and just thinking about it makes me long to curl up with the giant time in some corner and disappear into the foggy streets of London and into the dusky courts to hear the name of Jarndyce and Jarndyce bellowed out and followed by the sounds of the lawyers laughing and their chairs creaking. In fact the last time I read it was October (I think) and boy it is high time I read it again. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Ahahahaha the innocent short story that has turned into a complicated story that might or might not be a disaster. I’m pretty sure I’ve told you before how one fateful day in November of 2018 a fuzzy innocent looking plot bunny came and knocked on my door. It was so cute and cuddly I had to pick it up….!

Now here I am still feeding it and feeding and feeding and I have 80,000 plus words on this thing. πŸ˜πŸ˜‚
    And I love it too.
I don’t think this overweight and crazy plot bunny is leaving even if it wanted. πŸ˜‰

It’s a blast though! I’m sure if you keep digging into your ideas more you’ll find more and more gold like I have. 😁

Great post! I enjoyed hearing about what you’ve been reading and doing lately. πŸ™‚

    1. YES GIRL. Dickens allll the way. I haven’t read Bleak House as of yet (*sobs*), but I’m familiar with the story, and I can’t wait! It’s just that I read incredibly slow, so it’s going to be a while until I get to all of his AMAZING BOOKS GAH HELP ME. xD

Ah, exactly. Those deceptively adorable creatures are a constant threat to my existence. They’re nearly impossible *not* to pick up!!

I think in time I’ll probably have a million plot bunnies sitting around my house waiting to be fed. xD

I’m sure I will, I’m sure I will. πŸ˜€ It’s quite amazing what the mind can come up with. O.O
      Thank you kindly. πŸ˜‰

      1. Well it’s very long, that’s for sure, but my humble opinion of course is that it’s worth every page and length only means more of its amazingness. πŸ˜‰
Yes. They are such needy things. Demanding time and brain cells and sleepless nights. πŸ˜†

  4. Wonderful post! Did y’all decide to keep the cat? And also, I forgot its name. XD What is it? πŸ˜› Woah! You have done a ton of reading! And I am a super slow reader too! XD My January was fine! πŸ˜€ I have never read either! Do you think I would like them? YES!! I am SUPER ready for spring! πŸ˜› How about you?

    1. Thanks! πŸ˜› Yep, he’s still with us! He’s kind of sick though, so it’s up in the air whether he’ll make it. 😦 His name is Romulus Sebastian Fitzherbert. xD (we’re crazy, don’t I know it!)
Lol, I’m surprised myself at how much reading I was able to do.
Hmm, it depends. If you like old classics that are somewhat hard to get through and have delightful characters and descriptions, maybe you would. πŸ˜€
Oh yes, girl! I am SO ready for spring!

Romulus Sebastian Fitzherbert. That's his name. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
We call him Rommy, though. xD
LOL man I've had my fair share of snow, so I'm quite impatient for spring. You should really come over here and take some of our snow. It's high time that it goes. xD

also thank you for that one Han Solo gif I think I’ve been inspired (Han gifs only for a post maybe? I’ll have to write a post to put han gifs in tho..)

Annnnd I’ve been reading a bunch of Roald Dahl books recently (I’m really excited to reread the twits, which was my fave of his)

    Have a fantastic February!!!

Yes, I know. Rather long and amazing..ly weird. xD We call him Rommy to save our tongues from wearing out. xD

Haha, quite welcome. I will definitely have to do all Han Solo gifs sometime, that would be epic. πŸ˜‚

You know, I don’t believe I’ve actually read any of Dahl’s!
Thank you, and you too! πŸ™‚

        Have you seen Indiana Jones?!!?!

WHHHHAaaaaaattttt you must read at least ONE if you can!

      3. Please add a picture to one of your posts soon! Ik he’s a stray but can you tell how old he is (ish)?! And is he smol?

Oh YES I LOVE IT you should definitely watch more! (Tho the Temple of Doom is disgusting and The Crystal Skull terrified me. And still does.)

I haven’t seen the movie (looked terrifying tbh) but the book is so simple and sweet (and I love reading it out loud to my siblings- tho they don’t like it bUT I READ IT ANYWAY)

  7. Happy February!! Sounds like ur January went pretty well, mine was great! Ahaha I never feel much older after my bday passes, but the other day I was thinking and I’m getting old :((( I’m not even an adult yet but I am growing up and I’m not a kid anymore and it’s low key sad 😦 M.P.H. writes some good books, they’re quite interesting! In all honesty, I don’t love Austen or Dickens but if I had to pick I probably prefer Austen. I haven’t read very many of either of their books tho so maybe I need to check them out!
    Enjoyed this post πŸ’•

    1. Same to you, dear! ❀ You know, I never really do either. And your sentiment is much the same as mine! I always longed to be an adult when I was little, but I've come to realize just how much I miss being a kid. 😦 Growing up comes with a LOT more responsibilities, but it also comes with blessings. :)) ❀
Thank you for the amazing comment, and have a fantastical day! πŸ™‚

  8. (sooo i wrote a massive comment on this at 2am only to have wp swallow it up, so i fell asleep sobbing over the fact i had to RETYPE everything!! hate u wp 😑)

anyways, was that your bday you were planning the shopping trip for??? i didn’t realise *feels bad* HAPPY (very belated) BIRTHDAY KENECHI

ah yes, about that fellow dickens. i started reading david copperfield last yr, read it for a good few months before giving up on it. oops. i do that very often with books btw. also, did you ever have the Usbourne children’s editions of dicken’s works?? i was hooked on them as a youngster.

ooo, was it i who dragged you into the MPH books?? …or someone else perhaps. i kinda remember mentioning her to you on the phone, but i’m not sure anymore because i was so sleep deprived that night. anyways, i was also hooked on her writings a good few years back.

speaking of phone calls, i should prolly call again soon (so we can plan our super top secret project *rubs hands together* … actually, idk, is it top secret? xd). sorry i haven’t been in touch too much lately. i hAVe BeEn AnNoYInGLY BuSY!! so sowwy :v

anyways, i loved reading this post. looks like you had a good january. & yesssss, i’m so ready for spring :))

    1. oh noooooooooooooooo! Bad, BAD WordPress!!! *smacks* Anyway, this comment is epic.
Yes, ’twas by b-day, but don’t feel bad!! AHH YOU’RE SO SWEET! *hugs*

Oh, but don’t I get that! Despite how very much I love his books, it is very easy to set it aside and *accidentally* forget about it. I have no idea why that is… Mayhap it *was* Usbourne, but we do have some children’s renditions of Dickens’s. πŸ˜€ I *think* xD

Hehe, I think you might have mentioned her to me, but I believe it was my friend Anna who really piled them on me. xD

YeSsS girl! That phone call was amazing and we must have another!! (idk even. xD prolly not LOL) And nah! I completely, totally understand business. It’s quite popular over here. πŸ˜›

My friend, this comment made my day. ❀ ❀ & also yes sprinnnggggg. it's actually REALLY warm today and I seriously can't wait to go on a walk to collect the maillllll

Happy late birthday! My birthday is coming up, and I’m not ready.
I’m a slow reader too! *claps*
I actually quite like it, because I can enjoy the book more. Like, it may have taken me almost 4 months to read the Lunar Chronicles, but I enjoyed it so much! I honestly didn’t want to finish it!(and apparently there are 3 more books I can read thanks to spin offs!)
    Anyway, happy February!

    1. It’s Romulus Sebastian Fitzherbert, (Sebastian for Sebastian Stan, of course. πŸ˜‰ ), hehe. πŸ˜› We makes things easier by calling him Rom or Rommy. xD
Thank you! :)) And a happy early birthday to you! πŸ˜€
*fist bump* Yay for slow readers! You know, you’re totally right! That partly why I read so slow, because I find I like to process it more slowly and savor it, I guess. πŸ˜‚
      You too, girl! ❀

  10. Dickens is great! Oliver Twist is one of my absolute favorite classics!!!

OOH, Pride and Prejudice!!! I just finished that one a couple weeks ago and didn’t expect to end up loving it as much as I did!

    1. Oliver Twist is on my TBR! (i mean, so are all his others xD)
It’s such a good book! It took me a little while to read it, because I already knew the story inside and out (i’ve watched the miniseries half a million times LOL), so it wasn’t as exciting. Still good tho!
