A List of Slightly Nonsensical Things to Do When You’re Fresh Out of Inspiration

Stuck in a pit with your writing? Feeling so uninspired that even the shower isn’t capable of bringing you new ideas? Well, today I’m going to give you some things you can do when writer’s block hits and you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT IMAGINE HOW YOU COULD EVER WRITE AGAIN. Some of them might actually work.

  • Write a flash fiction about beings that live in the moon’s core. What is their life like? What are they like?
  • Shuffle one of your playlists and create a story from the third song that comes up (or… you know… the first song. it makes no difference. xD).
  • Read one of Danielle’s posts. Literally any of them. Because they’re hilarious and if nothing else, you’ll come back grinning like a loco person.
  • Sleep.
  • Make a list of your least favorite books on your shelf and write down the things you didn’t like about them. I have no idea what this is going to do for you but ya know what let’s just roll with it.
  • Use this prompt to write something:

“Better put a stop to this battle, boy.”
“How can I do that when the slightest scratch will kill me?”

  • Go for a walk. For the first person you see, imagine what they would do if they were put in a dangerous situation (a battle, being kidnapped, anything and everything, etc.). I advise you to make it as epic as possible.
  • Create a playlist based on either your story or one character in it.
  • Write a haiku that reflects your MC’s personality. You could do it with a different character, too.
  • Text a friend and discuss the ways there are to hurt or kill characters. (Mwauhahaha)
  • Write an extremely hilarious scenario that involves your MC falling into a river, Frogmen, and and elderly dragon sitting by smoking a pipe.
  • Crack open an old notebook and read your old stories from when you were eight and you spelled “beautiful” three different ways.

And that is it my cheerios. In the case of injury that follows trying out any of these things, do not blame me. πŸ˜‚ You have been warned.

Have a great day, and

Adios!

    1. YAY that’s good to hear. πŸ˜‚
Oh dear. O.O I would really feel terrible if I was the cause of your death. 😬 At least I could tell the judge at my trial that I only meant well. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
      Also thank you. πŸ˜›

      1. Yeah, that would be bad. πŸ™ƒ I could sign a paper explaining that it was not your fault that I died…except it kinda would be. πŸ˜‚ *shrugs* I’ll just send you Jem and my never-emptying-pizza-machine so you can have pizza in jail. πŸ˜›

Annnywayyy, I love these ideas. They’re so random that how can they not be inspirational?? Especially the one about taking a walk. πŸ˜‚

And THANK YOU SO MUCH for citing my posts. You are so sweet for saying so and I’m so glad that you enjoy them! <333

I discovered that recently, too. πŸ˜›
They are very random, yes. πŸ˜‚ I’ve actually been wanting to try that one out for a while, but I don’t go on walks in the winter. xD
YOU’RE SO WELCOME. πŸ˜‰ Because, yes, I enjoy them immensely! ❀

  3. How can I? You’re taking all the stupid with you. (Sorry, I just had to say it. 😝)
Seriously, though, this post is hilarious. Also, very timely. I think I’ve been running down on inspiration so I’m going to have to do some of these. 😁

      1. *hugs* Thank you so much, Clara! 😏 ❀ Your first one did, but not the second yet. πŸ™‚ I haven't gone today yet, so we'll see. 😘 I'm gonna thank you ahead of time, not only for your incoming letter, but for being such an amazing friend and pen pal! ❀ *more hugs*

  5. But let’s face it, is there really anything sensible to do when you run out of inspiration? I mean the most sensible thing I’ve probably done it go on a walk….but sometimes in the rain, or when there’s ice on the sidewalk and you just gotta hope you see it before it sees you XD

  6. How can I when you’re taking all the stupid with you? (did you understand that reference?) (what about *that* reference?)

let me just add two ideas:

    1) act out a scene you’re stuck on. Sounds weird but it helps you break through the unnaturalness of the scene and figure out the natural course of action to take next.

    annnnnd

    2) write death scenes. You don’t have to keep them in, but, it’s nice to have on hand. Also fun.

but yes, all of these sound super helpful I’m gonna try them! Thanks

    This.
    Is absolutely f a n t a s t i c. πŸ˜πŸ‘Œ
Inspirational and goofy and glorious all at the same epic time. Girl, how in the world. This is amazing.

Also I’m cracking up over the mental picture of my MC Zeb falling into a river and meeting frogmen and an elderly dragon. πŸ˜‚ I need this now 🀣

Is it bad that I want to print this list out as a guide this month and work through it??

  8. i think kenechi gave me permission to turn that old lady that walks like five foster dogs into a superhero against the forces of evil
I was gonna ask what you meant by frogmen but then I saw your comment that you had no idea so I must inform you it happens to be a nickname for Navy SEALs and now I want to write that. πŸ˜‚
Wait, someone else spelled beautiful however struck their fancy…?? πŸ™ƒ (Slightly more embarrassing, I did the same with “enough.”)
how can i you’re taking all the stupid with you I don’t even watch Marvel and I still said that in my head as soon as I saw the gif. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    1. Permission 100% granted. xD I need to see this.
Cool, I didn’t know that! πŸ˜„ You learn something new everyday. πŸ˜‚
Yeah well, I don’t think I would have survived without spellchecks. πŸ˜†
LOL, I really set myself up for that comment, didn’t I? I’ glad to see that everyone knows it tho. πŸ˜‚
